Ian Usher plans to sell his life on e-bay. Life consisting of : house and everything in it, including but not limited to a home theatre system, computers, linen and a spa, car, motor bike, jet ski, friends (?). his wife of five years left him. His present life contains haunting memories. He needs to palm it off to someone willing to push in the big bucks and leave his house with only the clothes on his back, his wallet and his passport. He said he will get on a train to god knows where and start over new.
Now yes, when I read that his friends are included in his offer, I was slightly aghast and had a debatable point to make. But that’s not the point.
The point is, is that what it takes to rid yourself of emotional baggage? A sell out of all your material goods and ‘friends’? And make it a big deal on e bay of all places?
The thing is, in my personal opinion, that this guy is taking his history, his earnings and his past life with his wife and down-valuing it by putting it up on ebay with this whole horrible publicity stunt. If getting rid of all this was actually so important to the wellness of his downtrodden ego and emotional health, he could have done it quietly, sold it all of, that’s excluding his friends I hope, unless he bought them in Cambodia for between USD50-200 and harbours them in his basement.
But this is obviously a money making scam. For all you know his wife must have left with all his money and left him the material possessions and he needs the cash more than the house and the fancy schmancy spa and bike and home theatre system and ‘friends’. Why down value a life that’s been hurting you? Leave with some dignity, some pride.
People will bid and bid for all those things and when it reaches a million odd dollars he’ll find it worthy enough. Give the house and bike and Jet Ski and friends and walk out to the bank before her gets to the station for that train to no where particular, cash in the million and live a better life than he gave away.
Ok its smart or whatever. But is that what our lives have come to? Just material possessions to give away on e bay? Not even in a more respected garage sale or newspaper ad. No. It’s about the money. How can I even blame him?
All I'm saying, is that all everything amounts to? An auction on e-bay.
For all we know, maybe it is.
