i reckon this was our first practice dive at Tioman. i was nervous, but as i sank, while the sea bed was pretty barren, the silence and the blue that blossomed around me was madly calming. i am too a water baby.
At the Singapore Zoo. we were lucky we kept out heads craned. i love this shot so much, the baby orangutan looks like he's saying "holy shit!! holy SHIT!!!" and the mother is like "freaking paranoid monkey."Also, a little fact. orangutan, doesnt mean orange monkey (like a friend very confidently proclaimed). in malay 'orang' means man and 'hutan' means forest, thus man of the forest. now, remember the book/movie a clockwork orange? well, anthony burgess wasnt talking about a well wound fruit. it was a play on the malay word 'orang'. clockwork man.
there you go, a story to tell at the zoo.
EDIT: ok, so apparently anthony burgess was talking about a fruit. HOWEVER, this orang-man thing was an interpretation of the book i had read when i was studying literature, so. oh well. no ones perfect.
every single time i see a hippopotamus (which is pretty regularly since im an unofficial guide to singapore (fucking irritating) tourist hot spots) i think of Mitch Hedburg: "is a hippopotamus really a hippopotamus, or is it just a cool-a-potamus?"
hahahahaha, never fails to crack me up!
'nuff said.
I wish this picture hadnt come out so grainy, the grees were delicious! also must not miss the croc lurking in the muddy waters.
this is the morning following Spains win at the world cup. it was around 6 am, we were on our way to the airport for breakfast and money change, and we had to change trains at Tanah Mehra. the sky was so pretty, it caught me well by surprise. i also really like the very lace-like silhouette of the cranes against the orange to blue sky. hahahahah!

The pictures are amazing. Also, I like your interpretation of the orang utans expressions! Nice.
I always thought Anthony Burgess meant "orange" as a man.. had a lot of conversations about it with a very obstinate ex. But well that's another story.
thank you!
i have had way too many converstaions (read: heated arguements) with people over the interpretation on clockwork orange, and i love that a single word can be read in SO many ways.
anyway, you stopped writing as often as you were. i miss it, write more!
I read it on Wikipedia again.. it's only his idea of an expression he heard. So it could still actually mean anything.
Also, I drafted something a few days ago.. will post it now. And if it helps.. it's almost true. :)
