We aren’t any different from anyone else. We are made up of the same chemical structures. We are not inherently good or bad. We all have free will. We all are a sadist. We all are married to Jesus. We all are saints. We all are god. But it’s the free will that counts, and without that we all turn out to be scum of the world. There is very little that differentiates good people from bad people and in this highly analysed world even that is so relative and dependant on a multitude of factors.
I detest seeing the feeling of superiority of god fearing people who believe that are ‘good’ based on their morals and principles. It is the exact way people who we name terrorists feel about their actions. When a suicide bomber takes his life and lives of those around him, he isn’t acting to kill, rather he is acting for salvation, he is acting for what he feels is the ‘good’ thing to do. All that separates us is this tiny, unduly magnified free will.
It is not about who is better and who isn’t. I do not mean to imply that all actions are justified or that we have good purposes for anything that we do. What I do wish to put across is that having this superiority about our good deeds it is but vanity. We allow our dark and light sides to appear all the time, some of us will it to be in moderate amounts while some have trouble keeping a balance, while others choose a side they feel most comfortable with. I have tried fighting on both sides of the nature-nurture argument and I always come to a purposeful conclusion, our sanity, our biological structure, our dreams, thoughts, actions are all a matter of co-incident. It is not just our chemical heritage, but the environment around us that changes everyday. Who we are is not who our ‘soul’ wishes us to be. Who we are is governed strongly by the physical sources working inside our bodies and outside in our worlds. We can be raised to be doctors or killers. We can be raised to be neither and still follow either path will absolute brilliance or stupidity. It all depends on everything around us. There is no ‘god’ judging our actions or treating us like puppets or awarding us with points in our karma banks. That is just a delightful invention of middle and upper class people because they can afford to have happiness follow a sorrow. If god really existed, and if he is as benevolent and loving and supporting as religious people claim he is, how come he doesn’t help those who are not financially able to provide miracles? Does this god have a select clientele? If so, does he really deserve the amount of respect and adoration the world showers him with. And why the hell is he a he? Why not an ambiguous being? Why not an energy?
Homo sapien. Thinking man. Apparently.
Why are we, then, this mad mob, so easily swayed by each other? So easily insecure so as to make up a powerful-man-being to rescue us instead of owing all our strengths only to our selves, who deserve it the most? We rely on some ‘higher’ being because we refuse to rely on each other.
In the end we are all the same. We will all display a dark side in our life and we will all do something good at a point. Free will isn’t big. It’s a small deciding factor. It’s not about better or worse. I think what it is about is almost a warning. We could be anyone. Free will just lets us chose who. A wrong choice, anywhere down the line, and we can just easily slip into being somebody else.
If your children were hungry to death would you whore yourself a few dollars? If you had to kill to save your life, would you? If you had to steal to fill your stomach would you?
If you could be anyone else?
Well, you could.
